South Florida AussieKiwi Club

G'day Mates, Kia Ora Bro

Welcome to the Australian and New Zealand club of South Florida

Welcome to the Australian and New Zealand club of south Florida. We are a group pf Ex-Pats who gather together as much as possible to network, socialize and just plain have fun. We usually have large events centered around Aussie-Kiwi Holidays, but we also meet at local pubs for mixers throughout the year.

The aim of the club is to provide support to Aussies and Kiwis who are new to the area and a place for networking and share resources. Like were can you get Vegimite from!

The website is created and managed by the club but it’s for you so please feel free to contact us with items we can add to share with the rest.

Born in Cremorne NSW ( Lower North Shore, Sydney NSW).

Father was transferred to UK in 1964.

Spent 5 years in UK boarding school before returning to Oz, sailing on my own and father’s sail boat.. Finished school at Newington College and started Hotel Management school.

Moved back to Europe in 1974, worked at various jobs in UK including 1 year in Commodity office in London. Then moved to Italy, France & Greece before discovering yachting industry.

I was in Palma, Mallorca, working on an 87′ motor sailor when it was sold to an American. He wanted to bring it to Florida and I had no other plans. I was first mate and engineer at the time. Upon arriving in Palm Beach on Christmas Day 1977, I was promoted to Captain.

I continued working on sail and motor yachts for the next 25+ years, achieving Yacht Master Ocean and MCA Class IV (3,000 tonnes) certificates. I have cruised extensively the US East Coast, Caribbean and Mediterranean.

Since 2001, I have been a full time yacht broker, eleven years were spent at IYC. I am also an MCA Master of Yachts Examiner for Professional Yacht Training (PYT).

I have one daughter and two grand children from a ‘practice’ wife living in Jersey, UK. I have been married to my current wife, Sara for 25 years and we have a son, Zander, who is currently graduating Florida State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Studio Art.  Sara is a full time realtor, owner of an art gallery in Ft. Lauderdale’s FAT Village and the owner of Feng Shui Orchid Designs on top of being a full time Mother!

I love to travel, fly (private pilot), cook and LIVE – Still on WALKABOUT!

Lives in Fort Lauderdale

The Club started  2002. I have always been involved bringing the snags of course always been on the committee then president about six years.  I always felt I needed to keep my heritage in place and being involved with the club was my answer.

Been here in Ft.Lauderdale  since 1989 (bloody long time). John (Husband) started the business (Murvest) the next year I came in to help out one day and I’am still here.

I do go home every two years to Sydney and the Central Coast. In the early days of the club we had a lot of Kiwi’s and Aussies around  always made sure that the kids were occupied with something . And  we always had successful Barbies.

Our most memorable events were held at Denis Sindry’s house  for ANZAC day there were always good.
